BTW there is only one terrain w/o gold. | Aha, I see your point! I mistakenly assumed that all gold terrains would be out, period, because it was a no gold game |

For October 2009, we'll be getting together at Games Plus! in Mt. Prospect, IL on the 31st at 6 p.m.
Format is: Night of the Living Dead
36 health. Your starting forces follow the standard army construction rules, except you cannot use Undead units. You must also bring an extra pool of Undead units (the Conversion Pool). For each unit in your starting forces, you must have an Undead unit in the Conversion Pool of the same health size as noted in this table:
Unit in Army | Corresponding Undead unit in Conversion Pool | Heavy | Heavy | Light
Light Missile
Shieldbearer | Light | Missile
Heavy Missile | Light Magic | Cavalry | Cavalry | Magic | Heavy Magic | Dragonlord
Dragonmaster
Fireshadow
Unseeli Faerie | Dracolich | Dragonslayer
Dragonhunter
any other monster | Carrion Crawler
Fenhound
Minor Death
Skeletal Steed | Kings' Die | none |
For example, if your army contains a Footman (common heavy unit), your Conversion Pool must contain a Zombie (also a common heavy unit).
At the start of the game, the Undead units in the Conversion Pool are set off to the side (by the DUA and BUA, but seperate from them). When units are killed or buied, they go to the DUA or BUA as normal. When a non-Undead unit in the DUA is revived (either by spells or SAIs), the unit is swapped with an Undead unit (of the same size and class as noted in the table above) from the Conversion Pool on its way to the army that revived it. No swapping is done if the unit is revived by promotion or recruitment.
Example: Your army casts Spark of Life to revive a Lizard Rider in your DUA. The Lizard Rider goes to the Conversion Pool and the army gets a Spectre instead.
Example: Your army can promote a unit due to controlling a City 8th face. At the start of your turn, you decide to promote a Knight to an Eagle Knight. The Knight goes to your DUA and the Eagle Knight goes to your army.
Example: Your army rolls for saves and gets a Wild Growth SAI. Since Wild Growth promotes units, you do not swap the revived units with Undead units in the Conversion Pool.

I've got three of each 8th face (total: 12 wasteland, 12 feyland). I'm going to assume that this will be enough for the meeting.
Minor terrains will be more difficult since I only have a few extra, unlike the major terrains which I have plenty of extras. |

For January 2010, we'll be getting together at Games Plus! in Mt. Prospect, IL on the 9th at 6 p.m.
Format is: Water World
36 Health. No more than half your army can be mages.
- Flying Units can travel into and out of any terrain.
- Giants can travel to and from any flooded terrain except highlands.
- Units with the Boat Maneuver icon can travel to and from any flooded terrain except highlands.
- Swampstalkers with a maneuver icon can travel to and from any flooded terrain except highlands.
- Units with the Fire feet can travel into and out of Highlands.
- Any unit that carries a Flying carpet may travel into or out of any terrain. Units will still need to go thru the reserves to get to the other terrains, I'm just stating that they are not restricted to remaing at a terrain.
- Other methods of travel (these all work normally): Terrain Flight, Wayfare, Firewalking, Path, Teleport, Airy Acquisition, Dragon Riding, Vanish.
- You may Feralize, Mutate, or Resurrect to any terrain. Stepped Damage, Promote works normally.
- Army Placement Conflict: If any unit cannot go to a terrain for any reason, then they start in your reserves.

So let me get this straight:
First of all, there are "wet" terrains: Coastland, Flatland, and Swampland. Then there are Highlands. The following races can be at:
Coral Elves: wet terrains (except for the Cavalry units with hoof), Eagle Knight, Gryphon, and Sprite Swarm any terrains.
Dwarves: except for monsters with fly, cannot go to any terrain.
Goblins: except for monsters with fly, cannot go to any terrain.
Lava Elves: except for monsters with fly, cannot go to any terrain.
Amazons: except for monsters with fly, cannot go to any terrain.
Firewalkers: highlands, Daybringer and some monsters with fly any terrain.
Undead: except for monsters with fly, cannot go to any terrain.
Feral: except for monsters with fly, cannot go to any terrain.
Swamp Stalkers: wet terrains.
Frostwings: except for Cavalry units and some of the monsters without fly, all terrains.
Scalders: highlands, except for Dragonne Knight and some monsters with fly: all terains.
Treefolk: Cannot go to any terrain.
Eldarim: some commons with Coral Elf boat: wet terrains. All the rest cannot go to any terrain, except for the few with fly.
So unless I'm missing something, only Frostwings are useful in this format. All other races have no way to exist at all terrains. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

If I'm following Jim's description correctly:
1) Any race can be at a Coastland, Flatland, and Swampland.
2) Only Firewalkers and Scalders with normal maneuver icons, plus units with Fly can be at a Highland (all others die).
3) Traveling from a "wet" terrain to reserves (and vice versa) is restricted to units with Fly, boat maneuver icons, and swamp stalker normal maneuver icons.
4) Traveling from a highland terrain to reserves (and vice versa) is restricted to units with Fly, and Firewalkers and Scalders with normal maneuver icons.
5) You can use racial abilities, spells, and SAIs to travel between terrains (minding point 2 above). So Path, Terrain Flight, Wayfare, Teleport, Ferry, etc. will all work.
chuckpint wrote: | So unless I'm missing something, only Frostwings are useful in this format. |
That, and any unit with Fly. Anything else you bring will be difficult to move around from its starting position. |

Nowhere. These do not exist yet. Who knows what the future may hold.
If you want to read thru a lively debate we had about these, check out this thread: http://www.sfr-inc.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=917 |

Thanks very much. I certainly will read it.
btw ... isn't it possible to have a session review of some of the games played at your tournaments? It would be very interesting as there are no tournaments in Belgium. The games we play are always with some friends (but occasionally) and especially against my wife (frequently)! Though I must confess we quit for some years, and now we play again! _________________ That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange eons even death may die! (H.P. Lovecraft) |

They aren't tournaments - just a group of gamers getting together every month to play Dragon Diceā¢. We do have a thread that lists some of our games (http://sfr-inc.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=346), but it hasn't been updated in a while. There is also this: http://www.chuckpint.com/windy.html |

Thank you very much, Dear Sir!
Everything will help to recapture the "essentials" of the game, the more because it has been quite a while since we played! _________________ That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange eons even death may die! (H.P. Lovecraft) |

Here is the easy simple version:
Army Placement.
Any unit can go to any terrain....
but they will be trapped there....
if they don't have a way out...
(So you can path a unit to a terrain....
if it does not have flying...or boat maneuvers...or is a giant,
but they'll be stuck there)
highlands is the only restricted area...
Quote: | 2) Only Firewalkers and Scalders with normal maneuver icons, plus units with Fly can be at a Highland (all others die). |
Note: Flying carpet allows any unit to go anywhwere.
So they need to either fly, path, teleport, ferry, wayfare,
flying carpet...
coral elf boats and giants....away.
In the case where you can't go anywhere because of the terrains...
ie all highlands...
you start in the reserves.
Genie:
I'm certain we will see genies and flying carpets...
as the genie's galeforce will be a weapon against flying. |

And then stay in reserves for the entire game and do nothing, because you wouldn't be able to leave the reserve area.
Of course, that scenario is unlikely to happen, since your own home terrain should be someplace your dice can travel to.
I predict that we will see many Frostwings around the flooded planet.... |
